MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Scottish Heritage Society is to develop the first National Cultural Center and Museum devoted to Scotland, on North American soil. The Scottish Heritage Center & Museum of North America will educate a widely diverse audience in the rich cultural heritage of the Scotland, Past, Present and Future. From the great freedom fighters of the past, the Scottish Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution, through to the present day, the Scottish Heritage Society will provide wide ranging services through which people may pursue their interest in Scotland and better understand the pivotal role that the Scots have played in the development of the modern world.
The year 2009 has been designated as “Homecoming Year” for the Scottish Diaspora from around the world and this will coincide with the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns. Burn’s philosophy, expressed through his writings have struck such a cord, that his birth date of January 25th is cause for celebration in almost every corner of the earth.
Burns is just one of Scotland’s many icons which are appreciated all around the world. The amazing rise in the popularity of Single Malt Whisky in it’s incredible range of manifestations both in age and maturation has got to a point where supply is hard pressed to keep up with demand. Golf is probably the most universal game but its mecca will always be the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. Tartan is a form of uniform originally designed to identify individual Clans or Families, that can be rendered in an almost unlimited range of designs and color combinations.
The list goes on and on but they all originate from a country that of only 5 million people has always punched above its weight – SCOTLAND.
